  6.         This dictionary is based on version 1.3 of Ross Beresford's "UK
  7. Advanced Cryptics Dictionary." This is "a word list for crossword solvers
  8. and setters." The main differences between Ross Beresford's original
  9. dictionary and the AlphaSpell dictionary are these. (1) The AlphaSpell
  10. dictionary is one file, and the original dictionary is 26 files. (2) The
  11. AlphaSpell dictionary is compressed, and the original dictionary is
  12. straight ASCII. (3) The original dictionary contained phrases as well as
  13. words, but the AlphaSpell dictionary does not contain the phrases. This is
  14. because AlphaSpell is primarily a spelling checker, and it only checks
  15. words against words, not against phrases.

  17.         Although AlphaSpell is primarily a spelling checker, it can also be
  18. used to solve crossword puzzles. For example, if you're looking for a five
  19. letter word whose second letter is p, you could send the pattern "?p???" to
  20. AlphaSpell. AlphaSpell is also useful for solving scrambled word puzzles.
